UP vigilance recovers Rs 1.62 crore cash, gold worth Rs 20 crore in raid on ex-transport officer’s home

The Uttar Pradesh Vigilance Establishment has recovered ₹1.62 crore in cash, gold worth nearly ₹20 crore, silver and documents linked to multiple movable and immovable properties during raids at the Lucknow residence of former Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Lalit Kumar in a disproportionate assets case.

The searches were conducted over two days, July 7 and 8, as part of an investigation into allegations that Kumar amassed assets far beyond his known sources of income during his tenure as ARTO in Agra. Officials suspect the recovered wealth was acquired through corrupt practices and are examining financial records and property documents seized during the operation.

Apart from the cash and gold, vigilance teams also recovered silver and documents related to several residential and commercial properties. Investigators are scrutinising these records to determine the full extent of Kumar’s alleged assets and identify any undisclosed investments.

The Vigilance Establishment has registered a disproportionate assets case against the former transport officer. Further investigation is underway to trace the source of the recovered wealth and ascertain whether additional individuals were involved in the alleged accumulation of illegal assets.

Officials said the probe will continue, with the possibility of further action based on the findings from the seized documents and financial evidence.
