Peel Regional Police have charged a 26-year-old Mississauga man in a human trafficking investigation and believe there may be additional victims or witnesses connected to the case.
The investigation began in June when a woman approached police with allegations against the suspect. According to investigators, the victim reported that the accused controlled aspects of her life, exploited her in the sex trade, and profited financially from her activities.
On December 2, police arrested the man and charged him with eight offences related to human trafficking and prostitution. Charges include receiving benefits from trafficking in persons, deriving material benefits from sexual services, and sexual assault. At the time of his arrest, the suspect was already out on bail for a prior charge involving possession of a loaded firearm in a vehicle in Peel region.
The accused was held for a bail hearing and appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.
