Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of Canada’s Common Sense Conservatives, is calling on Justin Trudeau to put an end to his wacko policies that have unleashed a crime wave across Canada.
The Problem:
After nine years of Justin Trudeau, Canadians have never been less safe. Trudeau’s insane catch-and-release policies are putting dangerous, repeat, violent offenders back onto our streets, and his reckless experiment of taxpayer-funded hard drugs has created crime, chaos and disorder across Canada.
Today, Statistics Canada revealed that since Trudeau became Prime Minister, violent crime is up by nearly 50 percent. Homicides are up 28 percent, while sexual assaults, auto theft and extortion are up 74 percent, 45 percent and 357 percent, respectively.
Meanwhile, Trudeau’s failed experiment funding hard drugs with taxpayer dollars has increased drug deaths by 184 percent since he became Prime Minister. In London, the Chief of the Police Service has been clear about the disaster that has unfolded, saying, “diverted safe supply is being resold into our community, it’s being trafficked into other communities, and it is being used as currency in exchange for fentanyl, fueling the drug trade.”
But this is happening across the country. In British Columbia, the Vancouver Police Department said that around 50 percent of all hydromorphone seizures were diverted from Trudeau’s taxpayer-funded hard drugs program. Since 2015, nearly 45,000 Canadians have died from drug overdoses. But Trudeau isn’t learning from his catastrophic mistakes. In a secret memo uncovered this week, Canadians discovered that Trudeau has a plan for “national decriminalization.” This means the legalization of hard drugs like crack, meth and fentanyl right across the country. If Trudeau is allowed to carry out his secret plan, the chaos and disorder ruining our once-safe streets will only get worse.
The Cause:
Canada wasn’t like this before Justin Trudeau, but his wacko NDP-Liberal policies have unleashed a crime wave across our country. Trudeau’s Bill C-75 has all but guaranteed that even the worst violent offenders will be released on bail shortly after they’re arrested. Things have gotten so bad that earlier this week every single Canadian Premier wrote a letter, pleading with him to scrap his catch-and-release bail policies before more lives are lost. In fact, in 2022 alone, 256 people were murdered by a criminal who was out on release.
