However, the box office story tells a different tale. Despite strong promotions and buzz around the fresh pairing, the film opened to a slow start, collecting roughly Rs 7 crore on its first day, with a modest 10.64% occupancy across theatres. Sacnilk data indicated that by 8 p.m. on opening day, it had earned just over Rs 4.3 crore from nearly 5,000 shows nationwide.
The underwhelming opening is particularly significant for Malhotra, marking his big-screen comeback after a two-year break following the success of Shershaah on Amazon Prime Video. His recent theatrical attempts, including Yodha, have failed to resonate with audiences. Janhvi Kapoor, though often in the spotlight, still seeks a major box office hit to her credit.
Industry watchers point to the film’s delayed release—shifted from July to August after the blockbuster success of Mohit Suri’s Saiyaara—as a possible reason for the sluggish performance. With only a limited window before weekday drops, Param Sundari now faces an uphill battle, relying heavily on strong word-of-mouth to sustain momentum in the weeks ahead.
