Ontario Breaks Ground on Peel Memorial Hospital Expansion

BRAMPTON — Ontario is celebrating the groundbreaking of William Osler Health System’s new Peel Memorial Hospital. The new hospital will add new and enhanced services in state-of-the-art facilities, such as a 24-hour emergency department, to connect Brampton and Peel Region’s rapidly growing community to the care they need.

“I’m thrilled to celebrate this incredible milestone as we get shovels in the ground for the new Peel Memorial Hospital, which will support improved care and continued growth in Brampton, throughout Peel Region and beyond,” said Doug Ford, Premier of Ontario. “The investments we are making across the province will help transform health care, with $50 billion supporting more than 50 hospital projects across Ontario. It’s all part of our plan to ensure people across the province can get the high-quality, connected and convenient care they need, when and where they need it.”

To date, the Ontario government has invested nearly $46.8 million in capital planning funding to build the new Peel Memorial Hospital. Once opened, it will significantly increase Osler’s ability to connect more people to care, including additional specialized care for patients who require longer hospital stays before safely transitioning home or to community care.

“Our government is making historic investments in Ontario’s hospitals to connect more people to world-class hospital care,” said Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health. “As we celebrate 100 years of Peel Memorial’s exceptional service to the community, we are excited to mark the next step in the transformation of Peel Memorial that will provide families in the Brampton area with high-quality care, close to home, for years to come.”

Once completed, the new hospital will include:

  • A new multi-storey patient tower with up to 250 inpatient beds and the ability to build additional beds in the future
  • A new, state-of-the-art, 24/7 emergency department to connect more people to a wide range of emergency and urgent medical care
  • Expanded post-acute care services, which will free up more space for additional acute care beds at Brampton Civic Hospital
  • New and enhanced mental health and addictions programs, including medically assisted withdrawal management
  • New and enhanced services for seniors, including dementia care
  • Rehabilitation and complex continuing care
  • Nine new inpatient dialysis stations and outpatient services
  • New and enhanced outpatient clinics and services, including a fracture clinic.

“Brampton is one of the fastest-growing cities in Canada and our government is ensuring it has the critical infrastructure needed to support families for generations to come,” said Prabmeet Sarkaria, MPP for Brampton South. “The new Peel Memorial Hospital will help community members access the world-class health care they need and is just the latest example of how our government is investing to help Brampton succeed.”

Through Your Health: A Plan for Connected and Convenient Care, the Ontario government is expanding and modernizing Ontario’s hospitals, making it faster and easier for people of all ages to connect to the high-quality care they need, where and when they need it.
