Peter Nygard, once a prominent fashion mogul, has been sentenced to 11 years in prison for sexual assault convictions stemming from incidents at his Toronto headquarters between the 1980s and mid-2000s. The sentencing was delivered by Justice Robert Goldstein on September 9, 2024, nearly a year after Nygard was convicted on four counts of sexual assault.
At 83, Nygard appeared in court in a wheelchair, where Justice Goldstein described him as a “sexual predator.” Nygard has 6.7 years left to serve after pre-sentence custody, and he will be eligible for day parole in 21 months. In addition to his prison sentence, Nygard faces a 10-year weapons prohibition and will be listed on the sex offender registry for 20 years.
Nygard was arrested in Winnipeg in 2020 under the Extradition Act for charges in the U.S. related to sex trafficking and racketeering. His extradition is expected to follow after the resolution of his Canadian cases.
