Ford’s push into high-performance electric vehicles reached another milestone as the F-150 SuperTruck prototype set a record at Germany’s legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife. Piloted by veteran driver Romain Dumas, the electric prototype completed the circuit in 6:43.482, earning the title of the fastest prototype EV pickup to ever lap the track.
The run wasn’t without its challenges. While the SuperTruck hit a top speed of around 162 mph early in the lap, a sudden power loss on the back straight saw speeds drop to about 120 mph, forcing Dumas to coast through the final sections. Despite that setback, the time still bested Ford’s SuperVan 4.2 by nearly five seconds, showcasing the SuperTruck’s improved performance and refined engineering.
Key updates helped the SuperTruck adapt to the unique demands of the Nürburgring compared to its previous outings at Pikes Peak and Goodwood. Engineers adjusted aerodynamics for sea-level conditions, retuned motor outputs, and revised the drivetrain to maximize grip and power delivery. The result was a composed yet aggressive lap that demonstrated Ford’s growing expertise in electric performance platforms.
For perspective, the SuperTruck’s time puts it just behind the Porsche 911 GT2 RS Manthey (6:43.300) and well within striking distance of the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series (6:48.047). It also places Ford’s prototype among the top six fastest prototypes to ever tackle the circuit, a list led by the Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo (5:19.564) and Volkswagen’s ID.R (6:05.336), also driven by Dumas in 2019.
Though not yet production-ready, the SuperTruck’s record-setting lap solidifies Ford’s position in the high-performance EV space, proving that even an electric pickup can deliver world-class performance while hinting at the exciting potential of future electric F-Series models.
