Canada Post workers have voted overwhelmingly in favor of a potential strike, which could begin as early as Nov. 3 if negotiations do not yield an agreement. With over 95% of urban and rural workers supporting the strike mandate, the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) aims to secure fair wages, improved working conditions, and retirement protections.
Jan Simpson, national president of CUPW, stated that the union’s focus is on collaborative solutions to support the long-term viability of Canada Post, while also addressing the pressing challenges faced by postal workers, especially amid rising parcel volumes.
The union has described the year-long talks as challenging, with unresolved issues from previous negotiations adding complexity. Meanwhile, Canada Post expressed its commitment to reaching a fair agreement, acknowledging both financial constraints and the need for necessary changes to meet Canadian demands.
Negotiations continue, but with the holiday season approaching, a strike could disrupt services if an agreement is not reached.
